The Concept

Healthy coastal ecosystems support livelihoods through income from fisheries and tourism. Coasts and river deltas support the economies of many small island nations. The wetland and marine environments (including coral reefs) are vulnerable to pollution and overuse. The potential damage can be reduced, when rivers are kept healthy.

Solutions to water pollution are found in coordinating the use and management of land and water from source (the ridge) to sea (the reef). By linking action and implementation in river basins and coastal areas, the aim is to support ecosystem services and improve riparian and coastal livelihoods.
